FAQ’S

Do you hold auditions?

YES! We host an open call/audition at least once per year in late summer. The exact date varies, but it is typically in July, August, or September. Through this open call, we hope to be introduced to new dancers in the area. Dancers who attend open calls will be considered for guest artist + understudy positions for upcoming projects and performances based on casting needs.

We will post the date(s) of the open call on our website, social media, and in our newsletter - so make sure to follow us and/or sign up HERE to stay informed.

How many members or dancers are in tbd.?

tbd. will have a maximum number of 15 dancers at one time. However, not all dancers participate in every project throughout the year or season.

The structure of tbd. is composed of:

  • tbd. Company Dancers

  • Guest artists

  • Understudies

  • Interns

A tbd. Company Dancer is a core member of the ensemble for a contracted season. They are not required to, but are offered the opportunity to perform in all projects + performances within a season.

A Guest Artist is a seasonal position. A dancer is invited to attend all company classes led by tbd. company dancers, and has opportunities to participate in projects and performances throughout the season, depending upon casting needs.

An Understudy is a dancer invited to participate in a singular project or performance within tbd.’s performance season. They will learn choreography as assigned, but are not guaranteed a performance opportunity.

An Intern is an individual invited to assist with tbd. dance collective projects, performances, and/or operations during an agreed upon time period within tbd.’s performance season. They are not guaranteed a performance opportunity.

How do I join?

Interested dancers/movement artists may attend our open call in late summer to be considered for projects.  Dancers may also join tbd.’s company class, upon invitation, to be considered for upcoming projects. However, attending an open call or company class is not a guarantee that an individual will be cast for a production or be invited to join as a company member or guest artist.

Do you offer any adult dance classes?

YES! We teach a community movement class called DANCE CLUB! on the last Saturday of every month at Holy Family Community Center. This class is open to all levels of training and dance backgrounds.

Do you offer any youth dance classes?

No, we do not currently offer youth dance classes.

What style of dance do you perform?

If we had to give it a label, we would say Contemporary/Modern.  However, all dancers within the collective have training in various styles, as well as their own unique way of moving and creating choreography.

How often do you rehearse?

We typically rehearse 2 times per week for 2-3 hours a time.  As performances get closer we will shift to more rehearsals as needed.

Where do you rehearse?

This changes from season to season or even show to show.  Places we have rehearsed in the past are:

  • The Omaha Academy of Ballet

  • Holy Family Community Center

  • Smitty's Performing Arts Center

  • Entenman Studio

  • OutrSpaces

  • Hotel Deco

  • KANEKO

  • If we are doing a site specific performance, we will rehearse at the site or location.

What does tbd. stand for?

In Spring of 2014, while filling out an application for the Omaha Under the Radar Festival, the name tbd. dance collective was used as a temporary placeholder in order for the group of dancers at that time to submit work. The name truly was, to be determined, in every sense of the word. After a successful performance at the 2014 festival, the collective decided to keep moving forward with the name tbd. as it felt fitting for the experimental nature of the group, and the unknown direction they were heading in.

Internally, tbd. means different things to each of us. To some, it means to be dancers. To others, it is to be determined, both in action and in a state of being.

How can I become more involved with the group, outside of dancing?

If you are interested in volunteering with tbd. - send us an email at info@tbddancecollective.org

We also have floating internships available for high school age students. We offer an unpaid internship position to one high school age student per year, typically in the Summer. If you know someone who might be interested, send them our way!

Where do you perform?

tbd. performs in a lot of different places. The usual places are in theaters, art galleries, and other typical settings - but you can also find us in more unconventional settings like bridges, dams, stairways, forests, by the river, overpasses, ponds, in fountains, public parks, or in bars - just to name a few! We love site specific work, and performing in locations where you typically don’t find dance

We have a collaborative performance series with KANEKO called MOVEMENT. Because of this, you will find us creating 1-2 large scale performances per year at the KANEKO building in the Old Market on 11th and Jones.

How often do you perform?

This varies greatly each season.  We typically do 2-3 evening length performances every year.  However, smaller performances and projects might happen depending on new collaborations and opportunities that pop up throughout the year!

How can I collaborate with tbd.

Send us an email at info@tbddancecollective.org and introduce yourself! We love meeting new artists and collaborators and are always seeking new opportunities to create and perform.

Do you have merch for sale?

YES! Send us an email to find out what we have!
